VOICE LESSONS DURING THE PANDEMIC

June 8, 2020

Unfortunately, due to the rate of aerosolization, that is, the production of airborne droplets, when singing, choirs and in person voice lessons are not considered safe at this time. It is believed that those droplets can easily travel more than six feet and can survive for about three hours. The amount of droplets created by singing is believed to be six times more than those emitted during normal talking..

The National Association of Teachers of Singing, of which I am a member, has brought together an online panel of scientists and medical professionals to assess how the virus will affect singers. They continue their research and keep us updated. For now they are recommending against in person lessons, This is disappointing of course, but singers and teachers alike are learning that they can continue building repertoire and technique through online lessons. And of course, most importantly, we can continue the catharsis and pure joy that comes from singing our hearts out!
